SMTP licence change with V7

Hi All,

I was planning to do a new install of V7 this evening. We currently run 6.303 and use the SMTP and HTTP proxying with anti virus checking on the HTTP content. We use a third party company to scan and filter email before it gets to us.

Imagine my surprise then, when just now I've got V7 installed on a VM (to get used to the interface and go though my procedure for my real install tonight) and I find with my current license I cant even start the SMTP proxy! I'm told that this feature requires 'secure email or email encryption' license.

How pis*ed off do I feel!

I've got to go though the hassle and cost of upgrading my license now - and I wont even use half the features!

At least with the way it was I could use a basic SMTP or HTTP proxy and pay for the extra that I wanted to use.

I feel like I'm being pushed to use Astaros solution for everything, while I like to have a bit of diversity.

I think the time to start looking elsewhere is getting nearer as this is getting more and more like a Microsoft product (only in licensing, it does at least work!)

    That's NOT good.

    I use both the plain SMTP proxy and HTTP proxy in a number of installations without any filtering capabilities.

    Please Astaro, bring that feature back, it's half the reason we use Astaro on our sites.

    I really hope this isn't the case. We use the SMTP proxy for outbound traffic, as our outbound SMTP server, that way there is no unlogged traffic going out on SMTP (suck as worms).

    They did the same thing with HTTP proxy... No "Surf Protection" license=No HTTP proxy at all.

    Sad to hear same for SMTP proxy.

    I think this will lead to a lot of users dumping Astaro which is a shame.

    We have had an offer of free upgrade to "Web Security" for our *existing* licenses that have valid up2date up till the up2date expires.

    Which is very nice of Astaro I guess...  But I feel I was entitled to this anyway and now when up2date expires, I will have to pay for the functionality.

    Very close to deciding to move away to another product [:(]
