ASG 220 Non-Responsive

ASG 220 Security Appliance in full production use.  Works great  when operating correctly but I have to restart the appliance at least 2-4 times per day because it looses active connection to the internet (eth1) and internal network (eth0).  Its like it goes to sleep and becomes unresponsive.  During this state it will not allow webadmin login.  Any ideas would be great.

    I would reload the system. It's not that difficult.... 

    Create the backup file of your system. Get the latest ISO image from Astaro and burn it to a CD. 

    Plug a USB-based CD ROM drive in the 220 with your Astaro image in it, and boot the system. The 220 will recognize the USB and reload from scratch. 

    Then you can re-apply your licensing, and your backup file and you should be set. 

    We've sold quite a few appliances, all of sizes. We've had this happen maybe a couple times - once because of something stupid we did. But it generally works. If it doesn't maybe you have hardware issues and it's time to get the device swapped.

    Take Care About this! The public ISO Image will not accept Licenses for Appliances! Contact your Astaro Dealer for reinstall the Appliance.

    Btw: Have you installed the FIRST 6.303 Update? There was a Bug with the Kernel. Contact Astaro for a Workaround to reapply the newer 6.303 Update.

    Yes, contact Astaro support.. .I had a customer whose unit became pretty unresponsive, and we traced it to the Anti-Spam module being overwhelmed by a "spam attack"... we were able to stave off the problems by making some changes in some config files... but only at the request of the Astaro support folks.  If you have an appliance with maintenance, take advantage of the support, you've already paid for it!

    okay, i stand corrected. I guess whenever I've re-installed an appliance, it has been at the direction of support, and it has been from an ISO image from them. 

    In the interest of full-disclosure, I've rarely used the software on any non-Astaro hardware. I understand why someone would want to do it for testing or for home, but not why anyone would do it for a business since it increases the overall cost of owning the product.
