New home user licensing more limited on V7..

I'm aware of the features that are now available in the V7 license and I'm not denying that Astaro produce an excellent product for free. The points, as I see them, are:

1)The type of person likely to implement and Astaro at home is highly likely to have a far more complex network than average 'joe user' (otherwise why bother?).

2) These same people are the ones most likely to recommend (and be asked to recommend) security products.

3) None of the posts I have looked at in this thread appear to be asking for 'more free stuff'. Mostly people just want an option to buy a slightly expanded package (thereby providing Astaro with at least a small revenue stream from a base of home users) but at less than a business would pay.

4) . . . and possibly most important/significant/telling. After nearly nine months of this thread Astaro have not deemed it worth their while to provide a single response to the points/requests/criticisms.

I'm not denying that Astaro have every right to decide what, if anything, they provide for free but I think equally the 'customers' have a right to ask for what they want (particularly when that is to give Astaro some money!!) and expect to be treated with some respect.

I agree with many of you. I am a computer and electronic security type guy and I have been using the home user licence for a few weeks now with the latest build version.

To make it clear I really think that it is fab software and the fact that Astaro give so many feautures away is great, this firewall does everything I want and works very well.

My only gripe is, like others here the IP counting system. I have 6 devices on my home network including access points ect that dont go out on the internet, I know they are using arp counting as for example my access points dont even have a default gateway !

Please Please Please lets have some comment on this, I dont think the counting system is fair, Limiting 10 ip's from transversing the firewall is fair enough and would stop a business abusing the home licence as lets face it, How many office's wouldnt have more IP's than that in operation.

PLEASE Astaro, just count the active connections and not my poor old access points that dont use the internet. I have internal DNS and DHCP servers and I still hit the limit even though I only have 6 actual computers that access the internet. I am wondering if blocking arp packets would do anything but I doubt it and whats the point of moving everything onto different subnets ? If I am going to do that I may as well use another router on top... !

I hope that someone from Astaro will comment on this.

I am using the home licence since over 2 Years. I was also affected by the new V7 Limitations.
In my Company we sell the ASG to our Costomers with Success.

However I really think Astaro is the way I want to go IF they can resolve this, I have even emailed there sales department offering to purchase a full licence and asking for details but they havent replied as yet. 

I think its very very sad that a nice software solution like this is being let down by the fact that no one from Astaro has responed to these points, even if its just to say that they are aware and working on it. I think what is really anoying the good folks on this thread is there lack of response be it positive or negative.

Lets hope we hear from them soon.

In the mean time I will evaluate this new bit of kit.

I really hope we do get a reply or they fix the issues that have been raised here.

I dont expect instant response as I am not a comercial user but it would be nice if they came back to us soon.

I think we all have to remeber that this software is being provided free of charge so I understand they have other priorities.
