APC UPS with ASL 6

I have an APC Back-UPS XS 1500 to which I've attached a couple servers along with my ASL 6.2 machine.  I need to install apcupsd on ASL it appears so it can be monitored with gapcMon as well as have a controlled shutdown.

1) What is the best/preferred method of installing apcupsd on ASL?

2) gapcMon will query monitored boxes via port 3551.  With ASL, will that be an issue?

    Use an APC Smart-UPS or Back-UPS with the USB serial connector on the rear. Connect the included USB cable between the UPS and ASG 6.x PC. That is all you need to do. The Astaro UPS software will activate automatically. From then on, the Astaro box will email the administrator when AC power fails and when it comes back on.

    Thanks.  I noticed the behavior you mention when I attached the USB connector.  However, I want to use gapcMon as a gui for acupsd.  I have that software on another machine (with a gui) that is also protected by the UPS and it is to this machine that I normally have the USB connector attached.  

    I was hoping to be able to add the Astaro box as a monitored device (which, in theory, should work as long as acupsd is installed on the machine).  But I'm getting "Network thread is busy" error when gapmon tries to poll the Astaro box for it's info (using IP 192.168.0.1 and port 3551)
