Wrong Product, I guess.....

Downloaded the product, since it was free for home use - looks great, but I think it is more than I need. I have a desktop that serves as a print, and music server for the rest of the machines in the house. (Running XP Pro, but with enough disc space to duel boot - currently a 20-30 MG unused partion.) I have desktop firewalls on the various machines in the house, but I don't trust the kids to keep them turned on, or their AV stuff up to date. So, I'd like a product that will act as a FW (at least) for the house, but which I don't have to dedicate to that task. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Astaro requires a dedicated machine unless you run it under VMWare.

Otherwise, rely on your router to protect you and use Windows Firewall on boxes and a good virus scanner.

Getting a spare computer to run Astaro on shouldn't be too difficult. At home, I use an old Compaq Small Form Factor Deskpro machine that I bought used for $80.
