Solutustions for deactivated features of Home User License

Hi All,

Since I am a home user I have naturally selected the home user license. But this license de-activates allot of the useful protection feature (web content filtering, virus protection). My first question is what features are NOT available for the home user license. If someone could please list them out I would much appreciated.

Also, with these service snot being available for the home user license, what are some other products and solutions which can be used for web content filtering solution. i.e Smoothwall, Clam AV.

What I would like to have a host behind or infront of the Astaro box to have all the features (web content filtering , virus scanning) which are not available due to the license restrictions. I am sure some of you out there have come across the same situations and perhaps come up with similar solutions.

    From what i can se it´s still a limit with 10ipadresses even if you buy that "power home user".

    With a couple of laptops,testing machines,xbox,dreambox , etc etc 10 ip´s just aint enough.

    Therefore i´m with another linux solution right now, but i´d most likely would buy the power user license if that 10ip limit where upped a little.

    Yeah, but it pretty sad if a friend comes over with a laptop and cant get online, "hold i´ll just shutdown the xbox"

    Been using astaro a few years and know it´s a good product, but the 10(concurrent) ip´s does it for me, if i´m going to pay 59EURO/year i want a resonable ip limit(concurrent users)

    Remember, it only counts IP's travelling THROUGH the firewall.  If the connection terminates at the HTTP proxy for instance, then that IP should not be counted.

    If you have more than 10 machines that need direct net access then maybe home use license is not for you.

    Another workaround is to put a NAT router behind the firewall, but then you are running double NAT.

    I think 10 users is perfectly reasonable for a home user license, especially at the price of the subscription. Keep in mind that that's concurrent, meaning you would need to have more than 10 systems trying to access the internet at all times. If your XBox isn't playing online, then it doesn't count towards that 10 user limit until you actually try to connect. If you've regularly got 10 systems all using the internet at the same time, just go for a regular license. At around $230 (or whatever it was), I think that's quite reasonable for all that you get.

    Is "high availability" the only feature that is not available under power home user license? I am particularly interested in VPN: Site-to-site VPN and Remote Access.
