License counting.

I am having the issue that I am exceeding my license count, purely due to HTTPS traffic.

We run our ASL proxy in transparent mode to force staff through it. Of course, you can't use HTTPS over transparent proxy, so that is allowed via a filter rule.

However, that means licenses being counted [:(] Any solution?

Force proxy usage in stadard mode?
Put a NAT Gateway infront of the ASTARO?
Buy more licenses?

If I force proxy usage in standard mode it upsets everyone with laptops since when they are outside the office, the proxy settings are then useless.

Double NATing is evil.

Yes, I could buy more licenses, but we don't actually need them. The problem in our situation is that we have a lot of people in and out of the office with laptops, we only have about 60IP's total in use at any one time, but due to DHCP leases etc we find we are going over 100IP's in use according to ASL...

Sorry, but how long dose it take to switch the IE or Firefox from proxy to direct, or the other way. 10 seconds, maybe 20?

Sorry, but, your the admin, your the law. They have to obey. Whose responsible if theres a security breach, you or them.

FWIW, there is a 'switch proxy' plugin for FireFox that gives you a button on the main FF window to toggle proxies.

Another option might be to use a proxy.js script to auto-set the proxy.

Yep, using this with Auto-detect proxy settings for the network will generally do the trick.

What you need to do is setup a server at http://wpad./wpad.dat , the contents of wpad.dat is your proxy.js script.
