Hi,

is everybody happy with the purchased support contracts from Astaro? Could you give me some good and bad comments?

    It seems that our experience is not as good as others.

    While Astaro Support is always fairly quick to respond, it seems that our issues are not always resolved satisfactorily.

    For example, we have had 2 issues since 6.100 days which are still not resolved (yes, we opened trouble tickets as well):

    Oct 2005 - HTTP Range header is ignored by proxy - Astaro said maybe would be fixed in V7, but could not promise anything.

    Oct 2005 - RAID controller not found (megaraid) - We went to upgrade a few servers from V5 to V6 and found that the raid drives on the servers were no longer recognized. Astaro says it won't be fixed in V6. Who knows if it will be fixed in V7. We had to buy new hardware to run Astaro.

    1) the "ranges" issue... well, Squid doesn't support that yet, hence Astaro doesn't support.  Astaro support has suggested workarounds for this issue, and they work.

    2) Always check the HCL for new version of any software.. Microsoft routinely drops support between versions for aging hardware.  Astaro does as well.. I don't see how this is a "support" issue.

    No, I mean version 6.100 days, not 6100 days ago. More like 365 days ago.

    I have to disagree with you, Bruce:
    1) the "ranges" issue... well, Squid doesn't support that yet, hence Astaro doesn't support.  Astaro support has suggested workarounds for this issue, and they work.
    The suggested workaround from Astaro is to not use the proxy for applications which require HTTP Range support, which defeats the purpose as we lose content scanning and content caching. We work around the issue by setting up a dedicated squid proxy which bypasses Astaro for all Range requests, but proxies all other requests through Astaro.

    What bothers me about the megaraid driver issue is not that it broke, but that they never fixed it. Other Linux based distributions also had the same issue but they fixed it in later kernel updates. Wanna bet that it works again in V7?
