Using V5... is V6 worth the upgrade?

I'm currently using Astaro V5, and have been very happy with it.  (I was very happy with V4 prior to that, as well.)  I'm just wondering if and when I should consider upgrading to V6.  Does it really add anything new that I should care about?

I do not use intrustion protection, virus scanning, or spam/content filtering.  Since those seem like the major upgrades of V6 over V5, I'm inclined to stick with V5.  I just wanted to know if there are stability or performance improvements I should know about, or if patches for V5 will be ceased any time soon necessitating a move to V6.

    No real noticable performance or stability improvements in v6 that I've noticed. Unless you are having performance problems and the hardware is already working hard, there is no real reason to upgrade.

    The real reason to upgrade is for the new features available in v6.

    That was sort of my take on it.  As long as Astaro continues to make security/bug patches for V5, I guess I'll stick with that for now.  [:)]

    The first thing I noticed when I upgraded from V5 to v6 was that my WebAdmin ran about twice as fast. Same hardware, same memory, just faster. That in itself justified the upgrade for me.
    Unlike the upgrade fron v4 to v5 the interface does not change so you do not have to learn how to drive a completly different firewall as you did when going to v5.
    I am very happy with my decission to go to v6. I would never consider going back to v5.
    Personally I just think it runs better.

    [/ QUOTE ]I agree. I ran v4 for a long time. I tested several of the v5 beta and production releases, but found the web interface to be too slow. But v6 was acceptable, so that is what I run at home now. I went straight from v4 to v6, skipping v5.

    Using WebAdmin in v5 was always a sore point with me, and others too I am sure.
    Another major difference with v5 and v6 is that v5 uses the 2.4 kernel whereas v6 uses the 2.6 kernel. Make of that what you will.
    As previously stated, I would not go back to v5 as I believe v6 to be a better product.    [:)]

    Hey to all,

    did you see on the roadmap to v7 there will be a complete new WebAdmin. Don't know how this will liook like, but it doesn't realy makes me happy.

    Where is this roadmap you speak of? Or do you mean the feature request wish list survey?
    I'm pretty happy with the webmin...

    Yes Simon i'm, happy with the webadmin too. 
    Buti i've to manage some remote ASG's. If there are big lists of rules or many items in the proxy content manager, the administration ist realy hard to do, cause the webadmin is then too slow. I hope the next version will be faster.

    Agreed. This is exactly what I did as I too found V5 webadmin painfully slow.
