Reboot issues

Recently I have been having issues when I reboot the machine either from WebAdmin or the command line.  At first this was just on one box and rebuilding it from scratch fixed the issue temporarily, but it has reappeared and a second is doing the same thing now.  They will reboot fine, but when they come up they will sit for hours and not finish loading.  The interfaces remain down and confd takes 90-100% CPU consistently.  Both machines are updated to 6.102, and meet the hardware requirements.  Anyone else having this issue or know how to solve it?

    Yes, Same here on latest Version as of 06-07-06. Had to reload the system last time about 32 days ago from the same issue. I see from the logs that it started to complan right after a virus update, Got E-Mail right after update then 1 min later e-mail saying Middleware not running - restarted and about the same time an Email saying configuration database server not running - restarted. This was an update from 06-07-06 at 9:03PM Eastern Daylight time. I sshed in and seen that confd was using all CPU, I rebooted and from the console it shows the same thing confd using all CPU and can not connect to the box.  Help This is the 2nd time I have had to reload and restore from backup.

    Well reloaded from CD and retored the last backup from a few days ago and same thing. This sucks, now I have to reload again from CD and grab a backup from a month ago and hope that backup is free of this confd problem. Looks like a long night. Again this is the 2nd time this happen. 32 days ago same thing.

    Hmm, I would run MemTest86 for at least a day and then your hard disk manufacturer's diagnostic utility for another day to find any possible errors.

    Similar incident on my end.  Two nights ago, Astaro was acting up (not allowing e-mail stuck in Proxy Content Manager) so I rebooted from Webadmin.
    When I checked the boot screen, it was stuck while loading.  So I rebooted the system hardware and this time Asatro loaded but the CPU utilization did not go down below 80% and it didn't allow me to login via Webadmin.  I then rebooted from console.  I waited 10 minutes but same issue (this time, the usual beeping sound sounded off but I couldn't login via Webadmin).  It looked like confd, exim, spamd was taking most of the process.  I rebooted from console again.  But this time, after waiting 5 minutes, I disconnected dmz and external interface cables.      I don't know if this fixed it but the CPU utlization immediately went down to below 5%.  I was thinking maybe SPAM and IPS process was taking precedence over http daemon, not allowing me to login.  But of course this doesn't explain why the Astaro froze while loading the first time I rebooted.

    same issue on many sites, on two of them it was fixed after factoryreset and restore;
    restore was from running, so it doesn't looks like a "backed-up" config prob

    In my situation I had to re-load from CD. I restored the config from the weekly backup but I suspect that what ever the problem was was also backed up and when I restored I had the same problem. I then reloaded again from CD and grabed the restore from the month before when this happen and this worked. The last time this happen I backed up the config just after reloading from CD. In that case I had to try a backup from weeks before also as restoring the last few weeks just introduced the same issue as before reloading. I also noticed during the month a slow down in web admin and this may be some of the first signs of this going south. I will mointor this and next time I see Web admin start to grind to a halt I will SSH in and see what TOP tells me about usage.

    As Aodhan stated, run memory and hard disk checks.

    ASL is typically very stable. (I've had in excess of 100 days uptime with reboots only for up2dates that required them).

    I think a bug with factory reset has been fixed in 6.203?
    Hrm, it states only for command line:
    ID3715 Factory reset via cmdline may result in defective system

    At least the annoying petabyte spikes have been fixed!

    Agreed: very stable product - but not with 6.202 / 6.203
    Meanwhile i have 5 systems down, some running for a couple of weeks and just stops working - no ip address...
    after reeboot the prescribed prob - isn't the factory reset prob, "sometimes" the reset fixes...
    "official Astaro Support-Way": re-setup from CD - what i'm doin' now

    Incidentally, yes there was a major issue with issuing a factory reset around 6.201 or so (maybe it's not fixed yet)... some factory reset files had incorrect permissions.. can't remember which ones, though.
