Slow Troughput on Public NIC only 3Mbit Out 6Mbit?

Dear All,

I have ASL 6.100 installed and it runs fine... but I cannot reach full speed from the internet! If I use a different router (in my case a USR G-MAX) then I reach the full 6Mbit.

With ASL I cannot go over 3Mbit...

Is it a problem of hardware? we are only two users here at home...

The  ASL box is a PIII 1Ghz with 512 of Ram...here some information about the Hardware utilization report:

CPU Load Average: 53.13
CPU Load Maximum: 740.00 m

What does this mean? Memory looks fine... only 50% used...
Do I need a faster CPU?

    The problem is QoS

    I've disabled QoS and now it works fine...

    is it because QoS requires a lot of resources...or because there some special requirements for it?

    I can't answer you explicitly, but QOS only works on outgoing.
    Why would you want QOS when there is only 2 of you on a 6mb link. I have to suffer 4 of us on a 512/128 and when the games are going full swing everything is so slow regardless of what my kids say.

    The reason of QoS is because I run internally a mail server... I receive the mail for my domain do some scan and deliver it either on my internal mail server or external provider.

    More over sometimes I want to run other services from home.. and so on... but I want to guarantee for instance that RDP connections have Highest priority on other protocols....

    ... I don't care if an email is delayed few minutes... but it is very annoying when I connect to home from work and my RDP session is slow [;)]

    What I don't understand... is why QoS is cutting my bandwidht down to half...
