/var/storage filling up

First see what's filling it:

du -sh /var/storage/*

Your SMTP proxy is backed up.
Check to see if it's configured correctly, and try flushing it.

You could also empty the http proxy if you are out of disk space, as a temporary relief, but the smtp proxy is the real problem.

Flushing the SMTP-Proxy in Webadmin (v6):

Proxies  ->  Proxy Content Manager

You can delete old mails 'by hand' or use
the 'Automatic Cleanup'  feature ..

There are no entries in the proxy content manager, I empty these regularly.

Any other ideas?

Check the filesystem again, and find exactly what is using the space...

e.g.
du -sh /var/storage/chroot-smtp/*
...
until you find what's using the space.
It could be core files, mail queues, ...

tmp is 2.1G, how on earth do I get rid of it?

make sure you have a backup of your ASL config first.


I'd advise emailing support@Astaro.com about this also.
send them a list of the files in that tmp dir
(ls -l)

see if there are any messages in the smtp proxy queue (content manager) you don't want to lose. if so, try to flush them first.
stop the smtp proxy

as root (su if you aren't)
cd to the directory first
and do
rm -r *

re-start the smtp proxy.

Barry, thanks heaps!!!  The drive space warnings are gone...now I just need to get onto support to find out why this is happening.  Thanks again for your help!

We have the same problem and we have enabled "Automatic cleanup" in proxy content manager. You know why it happen?

I had the same problem - lots of wool_xxxx files in /var/storage/chroot-smtp/tmp  which were days old. I've raised this as an issue with Astaro support. A "find /var/storage/chroot-smtp/tmp/  -name "wool_*" -type f -mtime +2 -exec rm -f {} \;" run from cron is my workaround.

Are you sure that this command not delete files used by greylist for example?

My mistake - typing error - see modified find command above.
