I'm running 5.202 in a proof-of-concept environment, and have continued to add configurations that take advantage of various capabilities to see what works well and what doesn't.
So far, I'm using it as a forward HTTP proxy w/ content filter, a packet filter, and reverse proxy (using DNAT entries). I have an L2TP VPN configured, but it's very lightly used.
I had read previously that, for forward proxy purposes, use of the SMP kernel will actually decrease performance. Also, it seems that enabling spyware scanning causes a noticable decrease in proxy performance (enabling virus scanning brings it to nearly a standstill).
Given that we'll be using all of the above features, I was wondering which kernel would work best on an IBM x306 with dual P4 Xeon's and 4GB of system memory?
Also, does the upcoming 6.0 release utilize a kernel that makes better use of multiple processors?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts!
