Someone has experience with tethereal ASL

Hi List,

Someone has experience with tethereal / ethereal and ASL5.
Does someone have binaries (ASL) in addition?

I haven't tried it, but there are lots of rpms available at http://www.ethereal.com/download.html

They're probably all linked against GTK+, which could be a problem.

Apparently, there is a build command to make a statically-compiled version of tethereal; perhaps you could try that on another machine?

If not, let me know and maybe I can try it next week.

OK, I've got it!

On another linux machine, I got source of ethereal 0.10.10 from http://www.ethereal.com/distribution/ethereal-0.10.10.tar.bz2
extracted it, and ran
./configure --enable-static option --disable-ethereal
make

It works!

note that installing this may void your ASL support contract.

I'm having trouble statically compiling Wireshark 0.99.5 (tried on RHEL 4 and Fedora 6)... has anyone had any luck, or know of an RPM which will work on ASL 6 & 7?

ASG 6 and 7 are based on SLES RPMs, try SuSE RPMs ... or compile on SLES machines [:)]

I tried a Suse 10.2 RPM of Wireshark last night, but there were too many missing libraries...

Maybe Suse 9?

There seems to be a bug in the build scripts for Wireshark 0.99.5 which makes it impossible to do a static build.

What version of Suse would be compatible?

Anyone got TShark working?

WireShark/TShark's build process still doesn't seem to be able to do a static build on Linux...

I'd REALLY like to get this working... anyone have any suggestions?

Anyone know if the SLES 10 Workstation VMWare image has gcc and all of the libraries that would be needed to compile TShark?
