Summary:

    Users notice that with spyware protection enabled many websites will appear to be working incorrectly with the insertion of Astaro info pages in place of ads. 

Further Information:

    The insertion of Astaro info pages is no misbehavior of ASL. Quite the opposite, because this is exactly what Astaro Security Linux is supposed to detect and block. These info pages ensure that all users will become aware of which websites employ spyware and to the extent many “free” downloads or services load spyware onto a user’s system.

    If you want to protect yourself from this kind of spying, you must accept that ASL will crop spyware pages. As a matter of fact, the actual page layout is not affected, that is to say, the page will still be displayed correctly, only the frequent appearance of the Astaro logo looks somewhat unfamiliar.

    Example:

    In order to demonstate spyware protection in use please examine the homepage of Ebay with spyware protection enabled. You will notice that all images and links that were replaced by Astaro info pages are user tracking items from DoubleClick, Inc.

     

    DoubleClick, Inc. is one of the biggest user tracking and customer data management service providers. Due to the many banners placed at Ebay’s website they are able to create precise profiles of every Ebay user, thus tracking each user’s preferences and surfing habits.

    That is cookie and ad blocking..not spyware prevention.  I wonder what they are doing for true spyware prevention?

    i hope that a souped up Regular Expression isn´t the reason for that Version Number bump to 5.2....

    ...but maybe it is a real nice AND working Tech... instead of a Marketing Thing to make Noise... (I already received an Marketing E-Mail from Astaro about that new Feature to be shown at ceBit)

    It blocks incomming and outgoing URLs/IP adresses which are known for sending/receiving spyware/tracking cookies, .... So it prevents your systems from gettings infected AND it prevents already infected systems from sending informations back to the internet.
    A really nice thing. Just enable it and goto www.ebay.com You will find our, that a lot of images are blocked by Astaro. All those images are from doubleclick.com - one of the very big user tracking companies. So you are protected from spyware AND you can find out which sites are containing spyware, like tracking cookies.

    Tracking cookies: Cookies distributed trough different websites maintained by a single company. These company collects informations about your web surfing attitudes.
