Upgrade from v4 to v5

Hello all, 

We have several ASL firewalls deployed across the company, all our remote offices are connected via VPN to the HQ using ASL as well. All running v4.022 at the moment. 

We're planning on upgrading to v5. The upgrade will be made gradually. Are there any important issues that we should be aware of ? We rely heavilly on the VPNs (especially at HQ where we have a lot of them) , anything important changed with the VPN in v5 ? Will importing the config from v4 work "out of the box" ?

Also, can I just upgrade to v5 as an nomal upgrade ? Or do I have to install the box from scratch with v5 and import the config ?

If anybody did this in a production environment, I would appreciate any info you might have.

    Hello Stefan,

    normally it should work... But what is normal.
    Best way to do this is:

    1) Make a backup from your HQ ASL
    2) Take a TestPC and install V5.1
    3) Upload your license
    4) Load your backup
    5) Testing, testing, testing ....

    I did test it a bit. I have a test system running v5.0 for a while now and all the basic stuff is working fine. But I can't really test what's happening in production. The main firewall at HQ has like 5 NICs (one of them gigabit), lots of NAT rules and well over 70 running VPN Lan-to-Lan connections. There is no easy way to "test" those.

    Hi Stefan,

    yes i believe that this isn ´t easy.
    So, did you install the newest ISO V5.1 and did you load your backup on the test box?

    Are all settings taken over? Have you checked them all in theory? If they look really right, go and make a productive test. 

    The functionality V4 -> V5 is "the same". Many new features but what had worked in V4 also works  in V5.
