Uplink failover question.

The online help states that "If the primary uplink is an ethernet-type interface, and the secondary one is a point-to-point interface (like PPPoE), the dynamic definitions for the interface networks and broadcast addresses are not used for the time of the failover."

Can someone tell me what this means exactly?  We are considering purchasing a PPPoE ADSL account for secondary failover.

Does the primary revert once the failed interface comes up again automatically?

    Simon, in the tests I've ran... aprox 1 min to 3 min at the most once the primary link comes back up it's running on that again.  it mostly depends on the speed of your box so it can re-write the ruleset/routeset to match the interface

    hi simon,

    i used it with primary interface as standart ethernet and the failover as an pppoe.
    if my failover check ip not pingable (next hop from my router to provider), the asl automatic switch to the pppoe line and come back if the primary are response again.

    in the past i have some problems with this feature, but in the latest version it works.

    i am not shure, but i think it means that your hostname definitions (like a dyndns entry) will not work (resolve) for the time of failover. hm, strange.

    if i have enough time on the weekend i will test it.
