How do I in 5.1?

Hi all.

I've recently upgraded into 5.1 and surely there are additional features and security patches that came with it.

I'm running into a very tiny issue but I'd like to resolve this ASAP. I can't seem to find how to add a network definition into a 
Network Group. Yes, I did read the "?" but there was no explanation for it.

Previous versions was simple - I create a network defition, say Foo,  then add Foo into Network Group, say Bar, using some arrow button...aaaand that's it.

Now, with additional features and such, I can't even figure out how to do a simple task! 

Help, pls!?

    Hi javalin, 

    the Multiple Object Selection Widget has changed between ASL V4 and V5/V5.1.

    In V4 you had the arrows to move objects, in ASL V5 you have to hold the CTRL key to select multiple objects.

    I hope that helps.

    I spoke to soon, it wasn't as simple as that.

    I've selected a few networks using the CTRL key as you have suggested and then did the save. When I checked my Current System Packet Filter Rules:  under System Information, the networks that were originally in the group were all gone. The only remaining ones are the one I've recently selected using the CTRL key.

    Is that mean that whenever I have to add even a single network to the group, I have to readd all previously defined networks again? It seems that way and that wouldn't be nice. Unless there's another method of doing this.

    As I have said before, previous version to ASL5, all you have to do is select the networks you want added and move them to the group using the

    when you modify a network definiton all the previously selected entries are marked, you then can add another definiton by clicking on it, WHILE you press the CTRL-Key.
    It is like marking several files within the windows exXlorer, clicking on a file without the CTRL-Key removes your selection.

    Hi Snova, thanks for you reply.

    Something just occurred to me...when I've upgraded from 4 to 5, none of my network/IP were in my Network Group.  So, as you and Gert suggested, I've re-hilited all of the networks I want to add and then clicked the Save. That seems to work. All of the networks I've selected are now my Network Group and are reflected in my Current System Packet Filter Rules.

    I think this new way of adding an object to the Network Group is a bit awkward if not dangerous. If you are currently viewing  the Value  in  a Network Group and have accidentally clicked any part of that window(very easy to do), which will effectively un-hilite previously selected  networks, upon saving it, you will lose all previously selected networks. This means you really have to be carefull when viewing the Values and remember to hold the CTRL + the network/IP you want to add  because if you don't you can easily removed previously added networks in the group.

    For some, this may not be an issue but for me, it is. I occassionally make changes to my Network Groups and now I really have to put an effort into remembering the CTRL + key combination. Otherwise, a small mistake on my part can disable my severs or potentially place my servers completely open.

    I would like to have someone else verify this if this is truly the case. That is, in a Network Group, IPs or networks in that group are shown as hi-lited or marked entries. Clicked on any part in the value field(without holding the CTRL) and that will effecitvely remove all hi-lited values. My point is that putting too much weight to the CTRL key for a very important function is asking for trouble.

    However, if this is how it's designed in ASL5, well, I just have to live with it.

    That's how it's designed, but yeah I've accidently lost my selections.  I am more careful now [:)]

    You should always be careful when modifying a firewall's configuration, it's not a toy  

    I also liked the V4 way more...

    It's not a toy, that's true  .....
    .... but you can create simple to use toys and more complicated ones  [;)]

    I agree with Jav.
    Although i know how to use the V5 handling i found the way in V4 (with the two windows 'Selected' and 'Available') much more safe !
    Especially on handling large groups with tons of network definitions it was more concise.
