HA w/DSL switch or hub?

Currently, I'm using a Linksys Router between my ASL machines (HA arrangement) and the internet, it does my PPPoE connection maintenance. I want to switch to using ASL to do the PPPoE connection. I know how to chnage the connection timeout/reconnect time and have heard no bad things about the PPPoE connectivity.
BUT! What do I use between my ASL machines and the DSL modem? A hub or a switch? Are there any ARP table considerations or anything?

i would use a switch..nothing else should be affected.

Hi Jim M.,

you can use both devices,
this does not matter.

I use a switch to do so, but a hub works just as well.

Some modems will not allow you to change MAC addresses without power-cycling the modem first.

Try it.

If it doesn't work, can you set both machines to use the same MAC address??

That's a good thought. I think I'm OK though. During testing of my Snort/MySQL package I had to reboot and allow HA takeovers a LOT. The HA box always took over without problems. I'm using a Netgear hub I used to use for snort traffic monitoring.
