Your idea is a good one since the amount of posts that have now amased make Searching difficult and it is pretty silly to put many people through that again and again if it is one of the more common problems.

It would be even better if Astaro was to make a new "Top 10 Most Useful Posts" Forum (20? 25?? Just have them in order of importance) off the main board (the way Tiny Personal Firewall does on their board). For each entry, have a description of the problem, then a link to the thread where it was solved. Some would try to rationalize against making that effort by saying "how does one arbitrate which are the most useful?" Leave it to a vote among the Astaro support staff (God knows, they should know the questions they get asked repeatedly a scillion times!!). Another way is to do a Search on the phrases "Search the forums" and "do a search", where we admonish people that the solution has already been posted (but we know that not all of those are necessarily useful...)

A subforum could be "suggested new nominee to the Top 10", along with an elective selection as to what it should replace. But submitters could be admonished that "the determination of the Astaro Support judges as to what constitutes the most useful post are final". Hey, if they don't make the right choices, they will have to wade through the same calls again and again; so I think they will be motivated to choose wisely...

Perhaps we could use webstats to pick top 10-25 by using stats on "most accessed pages".

That could be skewed though: many people looking for a solution might read an article whose title is promising; but then it really didn't give the solution. The post from a year ago (when Astaro was less popular and for which many people will be less likely to troll now) might be better. But it sure is one good criteria to use when considering candidates.

Another technique I don't trust is to use an automatic mechanism based on voter feedback (though voter input should definitely be helpful to Astaro). The 'Cell Phone Culture' of today often expect an instant solution to their problems (I don't!), so when they read that a solution is going to involve some effort on their part, they are likely to vote "that wasn't helpful at all!".

An addition to your FAQ might be the whole "How do I set up a/an ???? server in my DMZ"?
I've seen that one a dozen times.
Also,
"I'm new to ASL and can't get to the internet, what do I do"?
