V4 password problem

Hello I have a V4 in which I only know the webamin password. This is a machine that a friend of mine configured for me so he set the root and loginuser passwords. Me and him no longer talk so I would like to reset the passwords. I know I shouldn't have to worry about him getting into the machine since I have SSH disabled But still for piece of mind it would be nice to know that I do infact have FULL control on my own machine. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Was often discussed in this forum, try search funtion.
    In V5 you could do a password reset via WebAdmin, but this was not implemented in V4.
    You need either boot from another linux system and mount the hd filesystem, then you can call a script called something like  factoryreset (not in the office, cannot look in my FAQ).
    Or you backup the config file and reinstall your system (about 0,5h) then you can set the passwords.

    Try this, at the boot prompt type: linux 1
    This might boot you into run level 1
    where you can edit the file /etc/wfe/settings and set reset_pwd to 1.
    Then login to WebAdmin create new passwords.
    See if you can do this. I don't have a V4 box to test it on.

    Change password without reinstalling:
    Vi or joe from console

    /etc/wfe/conf/settings

    change 'reset_pwd' from 0 to 1 and reconnect to webadmin.

    He only has the webadmin password. He can't login via loginuser or root.

    in v4 doing that procedure will allow you to reset all passwords(root included) from webadmin.

    Hey guys thanls for all your help. I just booted to Knoppix then reset that bit in the configration file. Problem solved. I am new to using Astaro but I must say that I am highly impressed by the response and content provided by this user group.
