i'm downloading now the newest iso. i've changed the ide-cables and i'm going to use now a new cdrw-drive for installation. i'll see the result.

Please let me know more about the specs of your hardware.  What is the make/model of the hard drive, what motherboard are you using, what are the NIC cards, etc.

ram     -> 2x infineon 256mb double sided sdram pc133
ps       -> 300w codegen
hdd     -> 10gb western digital ide
vga     -> ati rage IIc agp
nics     -> 1x onboard sis900
            -> 1x 3com 905b-tx
            -> 1x compushack (realtek 8139d)
            -> 1x dlink dfe-530tx

this was my last config today wich has even caused trouble.


i've tried installation with classic and standard kernel. and also with apm, etc. enabled and disabled -> everything the same.

K7s5a....thats probably your Problem.
I have this board aswell...but as my workstation.
It runs good now but i searched a problem over 2 months.
This board i would never use as a firewall with Astaro i tell you.
I had strange Problems....3com Card did not well in that...worked and suddenly not, independent which pci slot, intel card aswell...then switched to the sis onboard thing...and removed ALL other PCI cards...works.
I changed the Powersupply aswell, have you changed yours for testing purpose ?
It might be that one of the Voltages/Amp's arent stable or not enough.
I read somewhere that you shouldn't use both banks of SDRAM in this board..better only one....but i cant find that article anymore....try the DDR Banks maybe.

My meaning is that you should try completely other Hardware for your tests. 
I never tried ASL on something other than Intel CPU's aswell.

also take a close look to the realtek nic.. those nics are pice of crap and cause MANY problems... ive got one in a server box  and that systems stops work .ervery day after some hours.

like you said... no traffic in and out .. after a restart everything was ok... 
so kick also that realtek thing...

ok, i think you're right. the board sucks. damn, but got it for 10 bucks....

and now....
i should watch out for a server board and 2 4-port nics.

I get TCP lockups after recent up2dates, and when playing with IPS rules.
