Astaro status e-mails

A client's home installation of Astaro just recently had aport 25 block put on it(this was system wide not just his connection)..is there a way to tell Astaro to send mails via his providers mail servers as right now all the smtp meessages are getting stuck in the proxy content manager.  CLI edits are fine..[:)]

    Webadmin - SMTP proxy - Outgoing mail - turn on Use Smarthost, and enter the URL for your ISP's SMTP mail server.

    This will relay all your outgoing mail through your ISP's outbound mail server, instead of having the Astaro box try to send it directly to the recipient's mail server.

    eeek..i do not have a mailserver at this person's house..it is Astaro is not able to send its status messages due to the block. I would(by the looks of it) have to get the mx record of the isp's mailservers to be able to use this no?

    My ISP recently put in an outgoing block on port 25 to anything but their servers. It does really suck, can't use my own outgoing smtp accounts anymore.

    I had to do as described above, use the SMTP Proxy, Smarthost section. I set it to my ISP's mail server dns name, which is actually an alias to three different servers they have.

    Works like a charm now, since they allow relaying based on IP address, not mail from: address.

    so did you ahve to fill in the mx name and all that or jsut simply leave it all at the defaults and configure the smarthost?

    [/ QUOTE ]You don't need the mx record, just the URL. All ISPs inform their customers of the addresses for their incoming and outgoing mail servers, so that they can configure their email clients. Simply put the name of the ISP's outbound mail server as your smart host.

    A lot of ISPs will block their customers from sending SMTP mail to wherever they please on the Internet. This is due to the large number of worms and viruses that come with their own built-in SMTP mailer. However, no ISP will ever block their customers from relaying mail through the ISP's own outbound SMTP mailer, since this is an essential customer service.

    ASL includes the smarthost mail relay feature. Enable it and put it to use.
