confd sucking CPU like crazy since 5.017 patch...

I upgraded to 5.017 early this morning and since then my CPU usage has gotten goofy.  But it appears the confd is going a bit crazy.

This box is a 1.2Ghz Athlon 256M 30GB of disk, running mostly all features for a 2 user network with DSL to the Internet.  The only alterations from the base install are that I have installed zabbix_agentd on the box.  I did a fresh install from 5.015 iso images then upgraded to 5.017 and rebuilt all the rules/features (so I did NOT upgrade from a backup file).

Does anyone have any idea whats going on here?  This box has only been UP for 18 hours and confd has sucked up almost an hours worth of CPU time?

    To everyone reporting this issue, if you haven't done so already PLEASE update to at least 5.018.  Astaro made major performance improvements in 5.018 that might just resolve your issues.

    agreed they made some major improvements on my low end gear...however office defender some users with higher end gear are still reporting this with 5.019

    Agreed, however Donavan has said he is using 5.017, the reason for my posting is because I believe it would be best if he first upgraded his baseline to 5.018 or, even more preferably, the current release which is 5.019.  It's really difficult to troubleshoot older versions that have known issues, despite the issues of the current version.

    I'm running 5.019, it's somewhat better but the load is still too high.  I'll get some current CPU usage graphs if anyone is interested.  The thread was started on 5.017.

    For me it looks like a software bug like an endless loop with polling. Maybe using signals should fix this?
    I guess that the high CPU consumption is the same on low end and high end hardware.

    Odd bug as most of us aren't experiencing it.  Any hardware oddities?

    I'm on 5.019 and CPU avg is 0.08 Processes.
    (Athlon 2500 w/1GB RAM)

    hardware oddities?? Okay, better do not ask ... running on a notebook with two pcmcia cards. But all runs fine except confd running crazy.

    On my PII-500 running 5.019, confd is using 10-20% CPU, and has used 3270 minutes of CPU since it was started 15.5 days ago. So, that's an average of about 7%

    At the moment, nacctdreport is using MUCH more CPU (40-80%)

    From my CPU graphs, it looks like something (nacctdreport?) uses the CPU from 2am until about noon each day. I'm not sure why it needs so much time to run.

    Hrm, confd is using the most CPU on my box.  I guess I'm not seeing an impact due to my high CPU speed.  Top dump here:

    it seems that 5.020 doesn't fix this issue on my box.

    Also on 5.022 confd is using CPU time like crazy 
    Unbelievable that this firewall gets 750 MBit/s through it.
