What ghosting tool for ASTARO ?

Hello,

previously, we where using a FASTTRACK 100  card to do a RAID 1 mirror of our firewall. Now that we are switching to Astaro, it is not an option any more. Due to the physical constrain on the machine, installing another RAID card is not an option so we must fallback to a "ghost the drive once in a while" option.

So, we loaded the chachine with two IDE HDD tray, changed the cable to connect them directly to the standard IDE controller and installed Astaro on the first drive. After that, we tried to use Norton Ghost 2003 to do an offline mirror of the Astaro install to the second drive (seemed to work) and booted off it.

Well, it didn't go well: the result was a screen full of "9"...

So my question is: what tool can I use to do an offline mirror of an Astaro disk and produce a bootable disk ? It MUST boot from a floppy (no CD on the hardware when it's inn production).

    Hi fulgan,

    figured out  once  the parameters for Ghost to mirror ASL.
    Maybe this can help ?

    Unfortunately, I got the same result with the suggested startup options. Any idea ?

    Hi!

    I gave it up, trying to clone the firewall. Everytime I change the configuration I send a backup file via email. In case of emergency I can reinstall Astaro and put the file back in. It's nearly as fast as cloning and you have NO downtime when saving the configuration.

    Unfortunately, ghosting the firewall takes far less time that reinstalling it. It's especially true for my setup where the firewall machine has to be opened and a CDrom drive has to be added.

    Installing Astaro from scratch takes about one hour and a half (between installing the CDrom, working my way through the clumsy and slow installer, connecting to the machine, uploading the backup, patching the server, fixing what isn't backuped, re-hooking the machine and puting it back in place). That's a LOT of downtime that could be brought down to 5 minutes with a ghost of the HD (change the HD, it's in removable tray, possibly upload the backup and latest patches, done).

    I really can't understand why ghost doesn't work...
