Wish List: System Service Monitoring Agent

Dear Astaro,

At this moment I cannot access the astaro Box for some reason... packet filter works, but the Web interface is down.

It would be nice to have a monitoring agent that will periodically check the status of some key services and tries
to restart them... if unsuccesfull will reboot the firewall...
if unsuccessfull try something else, like forward a warning
message and/or a backup of the system.

    This is what the selfmonitoring does, checking and restarting, if there is the need. If he does so, he will inform you using mail (if you configured the admin mail address). He will not reboot, though - normally, the people fix the problem on the console rather than rebooting the firewall.
    Web Interface down can have many reasons. Try /etc/init.d/httpd restart on the console.

    Actually I could not access anything on the firewall. It was very strange:

    I could use internet with DNAT but not with content filter, SMTP proxy was not working, web interface not available (on both sides public and internal) and same for SSH.

    I could connect to my PC on the internal side thru Remote Desktop, but there was no way to reboot the firewall. I had to go and reboot it from the console.

    Please note that I had ASL 5.012 running for one month without problems... this happened two days after installing 5.013 (the firewall was rebooted after each upgrade).

    Now I've upgraded to 5.014... 

    what are the services monitored by the selfmonitoring agent? anyone knows the logic or the checks that are done?
