Moving Firwall IPs - Advice Wanted - V5.007

Not sure if this is the right forum group, apologese if it is the Hardware, Installation one.

I am wanting to change the IP address the firewall sits on from 192.168.3.4 to 192.168.3.1.
My thoughts were to backup the config and reinstall under the new IP address, Up2date back up to 5.007, then add the config in again.

Is that the way to go?  Or can anyone think of a better way?

    You would end up reinstalling the software and all the patches for nothing. Your config restore would return you to your old IP address. Just go into webadmin and change the IP address. If you are using the DHCP server, change the default gateway address that it hands out in its setup as well. As soon as you commit the IP address change, you'll lose your browser connection to Webadmin. Browse the new IP address and log in again.

    Here is what happened, if anyone can help that would be great

    I have nothing setup other than a few DNATS and a few rules to allow them through.

    All working on 192.168.3.4.  When I changed the internal interface to 192.168.3.1.  I could get onto the internet using 3.1 as the gateway, but no one could get to my FTP site from outside.   I changed the internal interface back to 3.4 and all was ok again.

    What am i doing wrong.

    Try to change DNAT and related packet filter rules. Check network definitions.

    Does your FTP server have a static IP address on the internal network?
    If so, did you remember to change the default gateway on the FTP server to 192.168.3.1, after you changed the address on the ASL box?

    You have to go through the IP configuration on all the machines on your internal network that have statically configured IP addresses, and make the change in default gateway address on each of them. Every reference to 192.168.3.4 as the gateway is now obsolete, and will have to be changed.  Without the correct default gateway setting, your servers will only be accessible within the local network, and will not communicate with the outside world.
