the complete system very, very slow

hi everyone

I installed and configured ASL 5.004 and everthing works fine in the
beginning, but after a few hours the whole system would be very very slow.
It would be so slow, that you can not connect to the internet, get
emails, connect to a ftp server ...  because you get an timeout.

I´ve running the DNS, HTTP, SOCKS and POP Proxy, without any filter or
virus scanning options. I´ve got two NAT/Masquerading settings and 6
packetfilter rules.

The LAN consist of three client, without any other server or router.

The hardware report shows that I only use 40% of the CPU, 30% of RAM
and all other less then 20%, so I think it´s not a problem of the
hardewaresystem?

And by the way, the funny thing is, the  system doesn´t work after
a reboot. ??? -So why in the beginning- ???

    While your hardware would be perfectly adequate to run ASL v4 on, it is considerably underpowered for running ASL v5. You will need a much faster CPU, such as a P3-500 or better, and more RAM, use at least 512 MB, to get good performance from ASL v5.
