Too many collisions!

I have my ASL box set with 2 NICs (external and internal). On the internal NIC I am experiencing hundreds of thoudsands of collisions. Can anyone please give me an idea where should I start investigating this issue?

The wierd thing is that the external interface has 0 collisions. Only the internal is acting up.

I am running the latest 4.x version on a PIII 1.13Ghz with 512MB RAM and 1 3Com Ethernet adapter and another IntelPro (onBoard) adapter.

    Collisions.. do you have your internal hooked up to a hub? Hubs to not prevent collisions very well, not like a switch does.

    Yes my internal is hooked up to a hub, but what should be the reason for so many collisions? Would changing the hub with a switch help reduce the problem? I have a spare simple switch I can use.

    collision means that 2 NIC's trie to send a ethernet packet at the same time. this could be a waste cable, or NIC. collisions are normal if there are not to much. try changing NIC or cable. perhabs also your hub.

    switches are so cheap.  You can have one for 25 bucks or less if you go to a place like newegg.com.  Buy a switch you and your network will love you for it..[:)]
