Hi has anybody had experience installing the BPALogin (BID's) client into astaro v5. How do you transfer the client? What next? Any traps? Ports/Rules to open? Thanks in advance. Mark
You may also find this useful as an alternative way of connecting to Telstra cable. Not as neat once set up as Simon's approach, but a little less trouble than changing Astaro directly and impervious to upgrading Astaro.
Thanks Simon, I'll fix that typo. Do you mean that Optus don't use PPPoE for their cable connections? We had a customer who had us help them set that up and it appeared that it was PPPoE, but we were not directly involved. If you have any first hand experience with the Optus cable connections, please let me know or add a note to the docs page. I don't want to lead any up the wrong path... Will your page be up long term? If so, should i link to it from our docs?
The page should be up long term. I haven't any experience with Optus cable.
I was just joking that Telstra use bpalogin because they just like to be a pain to use for people. Many people on Whirlpool forums have bashed their bpa requirement for ages.

Hi Ari, Just for future reference the Optus cable network only uses the default DHCP Client, not PPPOE or anything the like. The catch that gets a lot of people is that when you put a new network card onto the cable modem the modem needs to have the power cycled as the IP address is based on the NICs Mac address not the modem. Whirlpool.net.au has all this info readily available.
