I've just completed an install of the version 5 demo product. I'm running it on a P3 700 384MB RAM and 20GB disk. Whenever I turn on content filtering, all sites become unusably slow. Even with just my computer on the private side of the box, CNN.com takes at least 45 seconds before it begins loading. Once the content filter is turned off, it speeds back up to normal. I'm using in the proxy in transparent mode with full logs and standard anonymity.
My other concern is with the general security of the box. I did a simple nessus/portscan attack against the external interface and found an out of date OpenSSH server (3.4p1) and an old OpenSSL, both of which have known holes i them. Also, during the whole attack, the packet filter was going nuts loggin dropped packets, but the IPS didn't log anything leading me to believe that snort_inline is not configured for the interface even though its configured for "Any" under WebAdmin.
