Installing Astaro under Virtual PC

A recent post regarding the viability of testing ASL in a VM got me curious. So I installed MS Virtual PC and tried to install ASL 5 using an ISO sitting in a local folder. Linux boots up, the installation starts but fails or hangs  when it attempts to verify the package checksums. Is there a way to tell it where the MD5 file is or should I be burning the ISO image to a CD? If the latter, how does the MD5 file get onto the CD?

I'm (obviously) confused and in need of enlightenment.

    The ASL install CD is selfcontained. You won't need the MD5 checksum from the download site.
    Try burning a CD from the ISO file and then installing from the CD.

    The MD5 lets you check if the CD was downloaded properly. You will need to download the md5 (or md5sum) utility to check, unless your OS is real and already has it.

    Well, it looks like you're right. The MD5 wasn't needed. I tried the install a few more times and it finally got past the checksum verification.  Thanks for the help.

    I generally don't bother with the md5sum check. What I do instead, is opening ISO images with UltraISO before I burn them, to quickly check if they are OK. I also have a virtual DVD drive on my desktop (created when I installed Alcohol 120%), and sometimes I just mount an ISO image on it to give it a quick look.

    I grant you that these approaches are not as thorough as a md5sum check, but they will catch any gross and obvious curruption problems before I waste a blank  CD.
