cpuload graph reading

I just checked my cpu load graphs after its(what it thinks is midnight due to the oft posted time issue) midnight run and i honestly do not know what the numbers mean.  max load is 7.23  is that 7.23 % or not?  If not then what metric is being used for measruing cpu load?

    7.23 means that there is an average of 7.23 processes waiting in the queue and can't really be translated in %, but 7.23 is quite high and it appears your CPU is under heavy load. What CPU is that?

    interesting.  you asked what kind of cpu i am running..look at my sig..[:)] I jsut do not understand how 7.62 processes in que translate to a high cpu load as the system has never been unresponsive since this recent reload without importation of other backups.  Since the time in ASL i 5 hours off no matter what i do it does its midnight run while me and my wife are still using the network..and we do not haveany drops in performace.  
    here is what i have running:
    http proxy in transparent mode
    pop3 proxy with only attachment scanning
    using NAT Masquerading
    packet filter currently only has internal any any allow active
    have dns proxy active
    have dhcp active

    that's it..memory usage:
    currenlty 111.36 megs avg 106.81 megs max 135.90
    so i have plenty of ram left free even during runs.

    swap:
    currently: 21.93 megs avg: 17.32 megs max 32.62 megs

    the memory usage looks pretty good to me am i off base here?

    oen mroe thing...in asl4 cpu load was never more than 35%.  At least for me that is low.  So is ASL 5 that much more resource intensive for the same configuration?

    I checked my graphs this morning after its midnight run and now the load maxed out at 1.09 which is much lower than it was yesterday with no changes.

    I jsut figured out theload spike.  I left my computer up all night that night and i got an 500k or so attachment that i was expecting while i was in bed.  I jsut had a friend send me a 500k attachment of pics and the astaro box in terms of pop3 came to a standstill.  memory and swap are fine but the load went from .4 to 3.82 and climding fast.  this issue is not present under v4.  

    *update* laod is up to 8.5 now and the mails has not shown up in my client yet.

    welp v5 pop3 is dead..going to try installing the v5 mr popper and see what happens.
