ASTARO over Microsoft Virtual PC 2004

For those users willing to test the ASTARO without the need of partitioning or having a second PC... I just load ASTARO 4 and ASTARO 5 over the Microsoft Virtual PC 2004 running on XP. All the features of both programs works properly. Since ASTARO only matter about ethernet interfaces (no serial, pararell or USB) works great on this VM system.

I run both distribution at the same time on the same machine giving 256 MB of RAM for each system on a 1 GB machine running XP on Pentium 4 2.4 GHz.

The Microsoft Virtual PC 2004 is free to download for 45 days license at microsoft.com.

OK OK ASTARO guys... I know it's not supported.

    Related to speed problems all benchmarks shows that Virtual PC is better than VMWare. Off-course Virtual PC is not a development of Microsoft... they bought a company called Connectix.

    The tests I run was ASTARO 4 and ASTARO 5 running at the same time and Internet Explorer at the PC in order to test. So 3 operating systems on a Pentium 4 2.4 GHz at the same time. I gave 256 MB each ASTARO and 512 MB for the XP to run the Virtual PC and the rest of apps.

    Hmmm... I must add... I'm not a Microsoft's resealer.

    I've noticed that virtual PC is faster, but what made me change was that VMWare created several network interfaces and this repeatedly broke my network access as XP got confused and tried to send traffic out through one of the virtual adapters.
