Why Inrusion Protection is licenced?

I don´t understand why Inrusion Protection is licenced in v5. If a firewall not have PSD it is no firewall at all.

    We're waiting on an official statement from Astaro on this issue.  A lot of very dissapointed people.

    From what I can see, ASL was selling well in ver 4.XXX and now with v5 the price has been increased to get a fully functional product and home users / power users are getting dumped on.  Especially since most people doing beta eval feedback for ASL 5 were doing it on home boxes !

    Okey thanks for the answer. For without Inrusion Protection you can´t call it firewall anymore even if you use it at home like me. I was verry dissapointed and i read in some place here Inrusion Protection should cost $3000/yer and it´s lot of money for me to use ASL for home only.

    We're still waiting to hear from Astaro on pricing and home/power user licensing.

    Hi,
    if you look for IDS-Systems you can buy a license for a stand alone IDS like "Packet Alarm" for a little bit more than the license costs of the Astaro-IPS and than it is standalone and protects the firewall to.

    If you must pay for Inrusion Protection in astaro v5 you can´t call it firewall without Inrusion Protection for homeusers. Becuse without Inrusion Protection astaro is useless.

    what i meant was for professional users a homeuser could not pay this without he is crazy at all

    Astaro by nature prevents intrusions by its stateful firewall..does this make v4 useless because it did not include snort(which is what the ips/ids is)?  V4 was one of the best ones on the market....V5 will be one of the top 5 i bet..there are bugs(like any new software) and if they decide to license against home users we have other alternatives.  We have to wait and see what Astaro is going to do first..[:)]
