[4.017-4.021] shutdown/restart issue

Anytime i shutdown or restart the firewall the system simply restarts..it never numounts the file systems it simply either restarts or powers off.  This of course causes an fschk.  I have also noticed this behavior in the betas of 5 as well.  I have tried shutting downfrom the console..from an ssh session and from webadmin all to no avail.  Is there something in the new kernels that does not like my hardware?  I hve a compaq p-2 350 with 196 pc100 6.4 gig hdd linksys lne-100tx and 3com 3.905b pci nics and an old cirrus logic 2 meg pci vga card.  This issue has been present since 4.017...4.015 and below are not affected.

    I also run ASL on Compaq hardware, a P3 Deskpro EN SFF box, and on my box the ASL shutdown and restart both work as they should.

    Could it be your Bios settings perhaps?
    Or maybe your P2 hardware is just getting too old to be fully compatible with the power shutdown code.

    nopers it is definitly ASL's kernel.  I have put mandrake 9.2 and did all the kernel updates and it shuts down and restarts as it should...i then tried smoothwall with all updates on this same box and it shuts downa nd restarts as it should..the only linux that acts strange on this one is ASL. I got my hands on 7 more duplicates of this box from my wife's work(they expensed them out and let me have another 7) and all other linuxes except astaro act as they should.  So this is definitly an ASL issue.
