with the smtp relay, the ability to have it send a notifier email to the system admin if it detects a virus coming from a host on your network

this way I would not have to manually scan through log files to see if I have any infected hosts.

    It's a noble idea, but it won't do the trick.

    The new email viruses that are spreading these days have become too smart for your approach to catch them. They include their own SMTP agent, and will send their mail directly, bypassing the outgoing SMTP proxy. Since the ASL SMTP proxy is not a transparent proxy, it will never see any of the mail that these new viruses pump out.
