"Empty passwords are not permitted." on webadmin

Hi, 
I just switched my ASL 4.0.21 from an old HP netserver to a smaller 3 nics VIA c3 mini-itx. after 2 days working ok, now I cannot log into the webadmin. If I put the correct username(admin) and pw(blah) I get
"Empty passwords are not permitted." 
What means?
Also: If i try to connect again, it prompts me with the message "webadmin in use - type your reason here... blah blah" ... so seems
that my session has been recognized... but still (even with setting or not the reason) I get "Empty passwords are not permitted." 

also... logging in via ssh as loginuser, the connection is suddendly closed by ASL:

[root@star 1]# ssh loginuser@192.168.1.1
ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host

till this evening all was ok.

Note: the firewall itself is working OK for net traffic.
but the smtp proxy is down:
here what I get from my external postfix while sending to a domain
served by that proxy:
host my.domain.name[xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] said: 421 Unexpected failure, please try later

Any idea where I should start looking?

    I ran into something weird also yesterday. After running ok since the last up2date came out, I was getting "Internal Server Error" for the WebAdmin, and trying to ssh I would get logged in, and then after 2 seconds get kicked out.

    I had no choice but to reboot the box.

    Wonder if it is an issue with 4.021

    this morning I got into the server room to see what was going on, the ASL hd was running like a mad, also login to the console was impossible... as soon as I tried to logon, I got "respawning too fast"...
    the only way was to hard reset the machine.
    All is okie now...

    I'm looking into the logs, but I don't see anything strange  [:(]

    interesting..I am running 4.021 w/out incident..jsut for informational purposes..what hardware configs are you two running?

    Last time this happened at a site I went to look at there was a nasty virus inside the network hammering the IP block and causing the firewall load to go through the roof

    I'm running it on a mini-itx with VIA C3 800mHz proc, 256mb ram, to protect a lan with ~20 pc, 10 ip phones, and to serve a dmz with DNS/web on 2 servers.

    there's a constant load of ~20% ... with pop3 proxy, smtp proxy, http proxy, visruscan, sock proxy, accounting... blah
    also with pptp roadwarrior access [:)]

    i would love to get one of those min-itx's but so far the only distros i can find are over in europe..shiping to the us costs half of the value of hte units..[:(]
