What does it mean: Protected Network Devices(IP's)

It's placed in System->Licensing. 

Does it mean that ASL won't protect more than stated there CLIENTS' IPs (so no more internal network clients may communicate through the fw) 
or it determines maximal value of different IPs addresses assigned to the allowed number of interfaces (so it would actually mean, that this values minus max n.o i-faces gives maximal numer of aliases for those interfaces). 

What happens if the limit is exceeded? 

I'll be grateful for you comments.

    The license covers the number of IP addresses protected by ASL.

    ie, say you have 8 workstations on a private address range behind the firewall and a DMZ with one server and 4 IP addresses assigned to it, this would total 12 total IP addresses.

    You should have a license for at least 12IPs... If you exceed this the firewall will still work but you will be breaking the terms of your license agreement.
