SMTP/POP3 Proxy

Hello,

at first i´m a new Astaro user and i have few ask to pop und smtp with internal mail server an not internal mail server.

1. If i have an internal mail server i dont need pop3 proxy and only smtp proxy.

2. If i have not an internal mail server i need pop3 und smpt3 proxy (outgoing mail). When i use smarthost which Username and Password i need.

When i need which Proxy.
Please help me!!!!!

    Hi Skywalker,
    you choose your proxy from your dependencies.
    which means, if you you have to communicate via pop3 to any outside mailserver you have to enable this proxy.
    If you only communicate via SMTP you only have to enable the SMTP Proxy...

    rtfm.
    a smarthost is a mailforwarder for you mails. all mails are send to this server over smtp, no direct delivery.

    To answer your question with a bit more clarity, the smarthost protocol requires your provider to support it, if you would like to make use of smarthost to have asl forward your messages to it before sedning, you would have to arrange something with the provider and then provide the name and password for the smarthost account in the astaro proxy settings.

    first: smarthost is not a protocol and the the provider only have to accept outgoing smtp connection.

    sorry, but i have not to arrange something. if i use directly or the asl as outgoing mailserver regardless of which. the asl check the mail, and send it over smtp to my provider. thats all.
