Experiences with wireless?

Hi all, we're getting ready for another Astaro install in a small business office (one floor, about 4 rooms).  The business owner is interested in wireless, but before we recommend this I'm wondering if anyone here has anything good/bad to say about wireless experiences with ASL.  The network will have a Windows 2003 server and about 5 workstations.  The office is small enough that we could run wire without a great deal of difficulty, but it's also small enough to just use wireless if that will work well.  What I don't want to do is put in a wireless network and end up pulling wire anyway because it isn't reliable.  Thoughts?  Your experiences?

    I've had great luck with wireless. However, not as using the asl box as the AP due to the lack of support for cards. Anyways, what I recommend usually is the Avay/Lucent/Orinoco equipment, the AP-1000 is a great access point. That equipment generally works very well and has excellent radios for the price. I haven't played around much with 802.11g much, but so far it seems to work well also (the only brand i've played with for G is the Linksys WAP54G). Personally, I would just go with the Avaya AP1000 with a gold card then a range extender (antenna) and that should put you in pretty good shape.

    Please check http://docs.astaro.org/HCL-4.0.txt, the new version 4.016 support more wireless cards as the older version.

    I'm running my home network on a Linksys WRT54G in Access-point mode. Works great as just another client on the network. I'm running ASL 4.020 as my Gateway, and all is working well. As an aside. please please please read all you can about security with wi-fi. Even with the largest WEP key you can create, your data is still being trasnmitted over the air to the max radius of your radio. No technology is perfect, but wireless can lead to some heartache. I wouldn't and I don't allow servers or other critical infrastructure hosts to have wireless cards directly installed. I realize that the far-end workstation is still in the data path, it just makes me feel better.

    In conclusion, if you're really concerned about secure communications between workstations and servers, wireless isn't ready yet.
