What about hackers?

Is there a board here and/or is it legal to post suspected hackers, paths to servers they are using, etc. ? One of our customers had their website hosted on the web hacked, and the hacker left pathing back to a server they kept their tools and images on.

    I don't like any of these answers.

    More than likely the server that you have isn't the attackers actual home.  It's a previously compromised box that is used to launching attacks on other people.  

    I would try reporting the incident to abuse@domainyouwerehackedfrom.com  you may try root and postmaster as well incase they dont' have an abuse email setup.  you can also do an whois and call the person in their technical contact if you really want to talk to someone.

    If you need help trying to figure out exactly what happened, I would recommend the mailing list at incidents@securityfocus.com.


    once you do actually track down exactly what happened and where it came from, if it's in a foreign country like korea, russia, the netherlands, etc.  you are going to be pretty hard pressed to take any legal action.
