System Restarts by Itself

Hi everyone,
I am experiencing a wierd behavior on my ASL box since about 3 months ago. Once in a while I receive an email that that system has been restarted (no, there is no one restaring my machine!). This happend at the beginning once every 10-12 days, but now it happens every 2-3 days. It just restarts by itself, and I can't find a clue in the log files why this happens.

Any help would be very appreciated.

    There is nothing in the logfiles? Have you seen if the machine is going down normally (like typing 'halt') or is it just rebooting (like 'unplug the powersupply')? I guess you have a problem with your hardware. Bad memory for example.

    If it's completely random, one thing you could try is you could try checking the sign wave of the power comming in to the box from the wall jack.  If it's not a clean sign wave one thing to try would be to toss a power conditioning UPS on between the firewall and the power jack.

    There's a few things that can cause it... you could also check to see if the cooling unit on your CPU is working properly, the bios on the motherboard may be monitoring it & be setup to reboot the pc or shut it down at a certain threshold... or it could just crash "Pentium 3 will crash when overheating, Pentium 4 will clock back till it runs cool enough, & AMDs have a nice habbit of burning through stuff when they overheat  [:(]"

    Thanks for your suggestions,

    I do not have a UPS connected to the server, or any other electricity stabilizer device, but I do have a few other computers all connected to the same socket and I have no problems with these. Only the Astaro box restarts once every 2-3 days, and usually at  around the same time of the day . This is the only clue I have, but nothing in the log files.

    By the way, it now happens every night, at 23:00PM sharp.
    Anyone from Astaro can explain this or at least give me a clue where to look?

    Maybe it is a fan which is broken. Every day it is going slower and slower and slower. And the PC is restarting more and more often. Maybe at night the temperature is higher in the room because of some closed doors?

    If it's as regular as he's making it sound, I don't think it's a hardware issue. Unless some other electrical item in the same area starts up at 23:00 and causes some kind of an electrical problem.

    It almost has to be something in software. IMHO

    did you take a look at the crontab? Is some proc started at 23:00? A high system load and some bad mem can blow a system up (or down). Did you run a BIOS mem check?
