Password recovery ?

I installed astaro a couple of years back on my firewall.
I set things up and have not needed to change anything.
I have since forgotten the admin password.
I also forgot the username, but I have been trying with root, admin etc.
Is there a way to recover ? If not, what username will have definately been set ? If I know that, then maybe I can keep stabbing at the password until I remember it.

    Console login is : loginuser

    Once logged in try su to SuperUser.

    Hi evilC,

    if you have physical access to your system you can try to get direct access via 'root'.
    If you need SSH login, try 'loginuser'.
    On your WebAdmin interface the login name is typically 'admin'.

    You should remind at least ONE password ...

    P.S.: Otherwise, if you really never changed your config (Set and forget), look around if you have a backup file (.abf) on your local PC.
    So in worst case, you could reinstall the system and restore the config file.

    aha, admin worked. I think I was using Admin.

    finally rebooted my firewall (All this cos a light switch broke and I needed to power down to shut off the mains !) and I get (no joke) 5000+ emails. 99% are portscan alerts (going waaaay back in time) and 1% are update notifications.
    How come I am only getting the portscan emails now ?
    Also, I thought up2date was meant to update itself, or do I have to manually power cycle manually ?
    Maybe it used to be like that, but now I am up to date it will be ok ?

    This is based on ASL 4, so it may not match if you are running a prior release.

    up2date can be set to automatically check for and download the patches, but I am thankful that it doesn't automatically apply the patches.

    As a firewall admin, I don't want my firewall installing new code without my express approval.  Depending on the nature of the update (ie, non-critical updates), I  would probably wait awhile and see how the updates are treating other people before I update.  That or update it on a non-production system.  As 4.0.0.10 taught us, unforseen things can and do happen.

    The email notifications are there so you know that there's an update ready to be installed, if you so choose.
