Possible to run Astaro V4 on a pentium MMX 200MHz?

Have a site which use Astaro V4 on a Celeron 700MHz and it is rocking!

At home, I have a pentium MMX 200MHz laying in my closet, and I am thinking to use it as a firewall at home. Is it possible to run Astaro V4 on it? The specs for Astaro V4 says at least Pentium III...

    Yes ASL 4.009 runs from P1 -> ....
    I use ASL on my P133 - in runs good - with an average of 40 % of cpu utilization by 800 connections. but the web interface is a little bit slow

    Hey Erik,

    I can confirm that,
    at home i have running a P1/166 with 196 MB RAM
    Its not the fastes sytem but it works.

    I've put ASL on a 166 also, but it was significantly slow so i went out and spent 54 bucks including shipping on a 750mhz processor and motherbaord (including shipping). That has been running excellent. Basically, this is your firewall and you want it to have 100% uptime, so if you can fork over as small of an ammount of money as that, you'll be a lot better off in my opinion.

    You can definitely run ASL 4 on a Pentium 200MMX from version 4.008.
    But you have to decide what you wan't to do with this machine.
    There are an empirical formula:
       
                a lot of vpn tunnels = high cpu performance
                a lot of proxies = high hdd space

    But I think, if you want to use it @ home, an 200MMX will be have enough performance :-).

    I just started the machine. 64MB RAM with a 4.3GB disk. I will change to a 9GB disk.

    Does anyone know if I have need more RAM? Should I increase it?(if it is possible. Must check the motherboard first)

    Is only for home use.

    That depends onwhat other functions you have in use, for instance squid require more RAM to function well, i myself run with mmx200 and 256mb ram, that works just superb, but just for routing function 64mb would be sufficant i guess.

    Try to get a little more memory in there. I started with 128mb in my home ASL box but got some warnings about low memory, I think this mainly occurs at houskeeping time, log rotation/generation etc.
    I upped it to 256mb and it seems better now.

    I've just checked memory usage on my ASL box.

    At 3am (right after housekeeping I think) memory use is at its lowest, about 35mb, it then gradually rises throught the day.
    Just before 3am its up to 180 or 190mb, then it drops after housekeeping back to 35mb or so.
    If you want to keep it from swapping out, you need to be
    looking at 256mb then.
