Using Backup file to Restore ASL

Has anyone done this and could they explain how? Also if it's a hardware failure and you have to change hardware is this capable of being used?

how to use the backup is very well explained in the documentation.

Afaik the backup file is independent from hardware, but of course the
new machine should have at least the same amount of network interfaces.
