CRON not running

I'm keep getting the message in my mail box that CRON is not running restarted 1 time

could somebody please explain this to me

1 what is CRON?
2 why do I receive that message?

Hi.

cron : is a linux daemon that runs scheduled processes

When you receive the message, means that cron is died or isn't
working. Have you tried to reboot the ASL, to see if you keep getting messages?

I have rebooted the asl in the past a few times but sometimes the messagge seems to come back
everything seems to be running normal [:)]
where in the asl settings or logs can I find out if it is running or not
