On your WAP question.  .  .I didn't realize it till Oliver weighed in on a DNAT/SNAT issue I had, but it turns out you can assign more than one IP address to a NIC. . .this was a necessary step in my defining a working DNAT rule to map a public IP address on my WAN net to a server on my LAN.  I'm wondering (don't have a test box where I can safely test it) whether you could assign two IPs from two completely different subnets to your DMZ NIC (each is a separate definition under Network=>Interfaces), and then make one of those subnets be your DMZ for web, ftp, etc. and the other for your Wireless.  That way if someone tries to ping around based upon the subnet of the address he gets under DHCP, he has no guidance to suggest where to look 'cause the other subnet doesn't have the same address range.

Dumb idea?  I dunno, but maybe worth a try.

No not a dumb idea. It's a good question. Can you have 2 IPs on a NIC that are on 2 separate subnets? I'm a real believer in "where there's a wire, there's a way", so I'd like the additional NIC for it's ability to isolate one network from the other. Also, what subnet would reply to the DHCP request when one is received by a wireless user? There MUST be a tool to scan (ping) for a wide range of addresses. If I can imagine it, I'm sure someone, much smarter than I, has done it.
Anyway, I've been approved for my PUL so I have some new experimenting to do with ASL in the near future. 

The more I think about it, the more I'm wondering whether a switch trying to carry traffic from two different subnets wouldn't have some nasty collisions, which might make my idea dumber than I originally thought  [;)]

As for DHCP, does your WAP offer DHCP service itself?  I know some do, and you could use it instead of Astaro.

Otherwise, I see that ASL allows you to select which interface to serve with DHCP; does it allow you to serve multiple interfaces with different subnets and different settings?  Since I'm using my NT Server to handle DHCP I'm a bit afraid of turning on a 2nd DHCP server and screwing everything up in a production environment. . .and I don't have a home network to test on.  Therefore, I can only make dumb suggestions which    other people can use to louse up their own neworks!

Dan, I don't think that a switch would have any problems. It doesn't know what your subnets are, nor would it care. Perhaps a managed switch might, but not the simple switches.
I'm not sure if the WAP11/WAP54G has DHCP, but I doubt it. I think that that would be reserved for their wireless routers. ASL can serve DHCP on multiple interfaces with multiple options, it's a small hack, but no real problem. I can even build the interface specific packet filter rules like ASL does. I can't wait to get home to start playing around with this. 

The latter part of this post is very interesting. It is a pity you started it in the middle of the crap from that guy.

I would have missed if i did plan to add a post to say why the heck are you guys indulging him with so much time.

Jim, Please let me know how your experiment goes. I really want to isolate my Wireless as much as possible including keeping off the DMZ. I wonder if they'd be willing to offer the free basic personal license and then a pay option (50-100EU) for the power user license for home users with extensive networks. I'd like to merit a free power user license someday :-), but I don't see it happening anytime soon as I understand it now takes quite some time.

I won't be doing any experimentation for a few weeks yet, but I also plan on testing some email/SSL/smarthost configurations as well. When I'm done I post all my results as well as configurations for those who want to try the same things.
