Power use license rejected!! Keygen requested

Ok,

Maybe requesting a keygen is a bit far, but actualy i am an active ubb member. Astaro changed it's policy, which means almost nobody will receive the power use license.

The reason why I'm mad is the way Astaro treated me. Now I realise I have done the same to them, which I am sorry of.

For people how think I don't want the pay for it, they are wrong. Till today I have paid for de anti-virus module. When the power user license becomes a paid option a would probably buy it to.

I would like to understand how you think you are an active member? You have been reged for almost a year, and have a total of 9 posts, 2 of which have been in this thread.

The stated requirments for the power user license say "The power use license is a free-of-charge license if you are an active support power user in our Bulletin Board".

It may just be me, but I sure don't consider 7 posts in a year an active support power user.

Plus, after looking at all of your posts, all I see is requests for help, nothing supporting someone else.  [:S]

Some, if not all of us, who have power user licenses had to work for them.  If Astaro started to just give them to anybody who just asked for it, and ignored the requirements, then those of us who actually have followed the requirements would have wasted our time now wouldnt we. 
   

How has their Power User License policy changed? It has always been for Active UBB members. By active, I'm assuming they mean Contributing members, not just people who register and then lurk forever. I've got over 200 posts over a year or so. Some questions, some feedback. I don't know if I'd qualify. I'm quite Erwin doesn't. 

Can you explain me why I did receive the power use license last year? Probably because I ordered the virus extension at the same time, which I had to pay for.

 

Yes, I can:
now we have the manpower and time to check all(!) applications for a Power User License.

Please calm down and be (positive) active on the board and you can apply for a license in some months again (btw: your postings in this thread will not be counted...) and don't start a discussion like "How many postings do I need for a Power User License?" - this depends on Oliver's personal opinion.

I was a power user, since I supported a bit last year. Unfortunately I'm working a lot in last months, so I wasn't unable to spend free time on supporting... So the renewing of the PUL was (of course) rejected. 
I don't blame Astaro for that. I can understand their policies. ASL is a powerful product, complex and worth paying for it.

But since at home I need it (I've a powerful geek test lab [;)]th ASL.
That's also a good way to learn [;)]

Maybe it's just geek-envy speaking here , but I'm curious:  just what sort of home networks are you guys putting together that can't be handled by 3 NICs, 10 VPN tunnels, and 10 IPs?  I would think that much over that would *have* to involve professional consulting and/or hosting that pushes the limits of the   private home user , but then maybe my dreams are too small. . .  

The home-use license seems pretty generous to me.  I just wish I could afford broadband so I could take advantage of it!!

Well for me here is what I have:
Firewall (ASL)
Web Server
Mail server
Gaming Server
Anti-virus/DHCP Server
Gaming Machine
3 laptops

Plus I have  VPN network set up with 10 friends
I also host LAN parties everyother weekend where I have 10-20 people here gaming. 

The 10 user lic is fine for me by myself but when I have the LAN parties I am a little limited on who can hit the internet during our breaks.... not a big deal but someday the PUL would be a big help 
    

I'm interested in the PUL for the additional NIC I can install so I can connect a wireless access point. The PUL isn't just for building 15 interface corporate firewalls. If the HUL allowed 4 NICs I wouldn't need the PUL. I have at MOST 8 IPs to protect. I just want to add the add'l NIC so I can use VPN for wireless connections. 

how can you be an active member if you cant test asl in pul mode. in the hul mode you dont have the full option of the software. of course hul is enough for most of us but there are also asl users with wlan or other type of connections they want to test. you can test asl with 53 people or you can test it with more..... (asl staff)  

I think the HUL is more than enough to get started with.  Most of us all started with the HUL. 

A switch which supports dot1q trunking is your friend. In the home environment if you don't need more than 100MB throughput, trunk to the Astaro, build virtual interfaces and call it good. Works like a charm.

I have the same Problem. In Business I use a ASL in Professional Edition, it was installed und runs without any Problem! At home i use the HUL. 
IMHO My experience is inaptly to provide the Admin here. 

So, I need a fourth NIC for Wireless acces from my PDA, actually I have External, Internal and DMZ NIC in my ASL. 

So what can I do, just use the ASL or change to Mandrake MNF (Multiple Network Firewall) ??? But i don't want to change my Firewall... [:S]   

This thread is of interest to me since I only recently discovered astaro. I have also been looking at Clark Connect or smoothwall to replace my Sonicwall SOHO. Here's my question. Why do you need more than 3 Interfaces in order to add wireless? Could you not just put your WAP onto your DMZ segment and use a VPN to secure it?

Thats what I do... no need in adding an interface unless you don't have the scratch for an access point and you have a wireless pci prism 2 card laying around...   

This is getting a little off topic but...
If you put your WAP11 (Linky model) on your DMZ with your FTP, SMTP, POP, and other servers. I'm assuming you'll be serving DHCP requests to the wireless users. That would let them onto the same subnet as the DMZ servers. Wouldn't it? Sure you could restrict what ASL allows to the internet, etc, but that wouldn't stop someone from pinging (as example) the SMTP server before they've VPNed to ASL. I'd prefer to have my wireless users (me and the wife so far) use VPN to do anything more than get a DHCP assigned address. I'd like to allow a guest to just turn on their PC and set-up a MS PPTP VPN connection which takes all of 2 minutes instead of messing with MAC address filters on the WAP (if the WAP11 can do it).
Please someone corect me if I'm mistaken as to what a wireless AP (WAP11) is capable of doing.

I use all of this for personal entertainment and education. I'm a Unix admin at a bank so they don't look too kindly on installing cutting edge apps or utilities on production servers just so I can check them out and/or learn about them. :-) I only recently convinced them that it's okay to use linux in a support capacity.
