Back from the horror...

Wanted to say that I finally saw the light and after a short run on a Cisco router with IOS FW and then LinuxMandrake MNF i felt it time to move back to Astaro and try it again...  installed on a celeron 1ghz with 256mb ram and 10gb scsi drive only to remember how cool it was to setup and get something up and running sooooo fast..  

thanks Astaro..   while i am not a 'paying' customer since its a home/poweruser license..  i AM pushing this into all small business accounts that i admin in houston...

    I tried Smothwall and Mandrake SNF a couple of years back, even went back to SNF for a very brief period, however Astaro does 
    everything I need and much more and is very nice/easy to look after.

    Same here. I'm not a paying customer but will be shortly. After using Firewall-1, SecurePoint, Cisco PIX, etc.., I really like this product. Especially on the wireless side of things. I'm working on a proposal to bring wireless internet into the development I live in. I will be using Astaro for firewalling.

    hey i am new to linux and new to security.
    Only thing i am sure of is that i did not want to use a windows based software for firewall and i needed more flexibilty than what an appliance gives.

    So far i am very impressed with this software. I have looked at others and like the fact that i can backup my astaro, load another firewall and then reload astaro in five minutes when the others fail to impress  me or is to difficult to administer.

    Great Job so far.

    You can combine it with Windows for authentication. I use the RADIUS feature to query the windows 2000 server and the active directory.
    Works a treat!

    You know what, I have been looking at the signon, Radius etc...
    But i am more inclined to experiment with OpenLdap. I am trying not to get locked into Microsoft any further since I am hoping to go to an all Linux solution for my company sometime in the near future, probably with the next round of upgrade. 

    Anyone has had any success with it. i.e. authenticating proxy with OpenLdap. I have not so far. Infact when i try to setup proxy authentification it does not ask me to signon i just go straigh to the internet.
